How to Choose A Laptop
Trying to determine what kind of laptop to buy can be extremely tricky. There are lots of different kinds on the market and it is hard to know what to look for and what you need. Here are some basic guidelines to consider when searching for a new laptop.
1. What Size Do You Want? First think about what you want the size and weight of your lap top to be. There are ultra small laptops as well as much larger ones. Think about the size of the screen you will be comfortable with. Finally, think about how often you will be carrying your lap top. If you will be traveling with it frequently you will want a light laptop. In general, here are the basic size and weights of different types of laptops. * Netbook/Subnotebook: Size: 10.5 x 1.5 x 1.3 Weight: 3 lbs * Ultraportable: Size: 9-11 x 8-10 x 1.3 Weight: 2.0-4 lbs. * Thin and light: Size: 11-15 x 11 x 1-1.7 Weight: 5-7 lbs. * Desktop Replacement: Size: 15 x 11 x 1.5 Weight: 7 lbs. * Luggables: Size: 18 x 13 x 1.5 Weight:12 lbs.
2. What Type Of Processor Do You Want? Next you will want to think about what type of processor you want in your computer. The processor will directly affect the performance of your computer and its speed. Most general computer users will be fine with most processors offered on computers and will have no need to upgrade. However, if you will be using your computer for editing photos or videos you will probably want to look into a higher grade processor.
3. How much memory do you want? This is a very important question to consider when purchasing a laptop. You should not buy a laptop with less than 2GB of memory, and that should be enough for the typical computer user. However, if you will be storing lots of pictures and video on your computer you should look for a laptop with more memory, 3 or 4 GB.
.4 Networking You will want to be able to connect to the internet when you are on your laptop. Make sure to find a laptop with at least a 56Kbps modem and Fast Ethernet to ensure you will have a fast connection.5. Battery! You battery life is very important when choosing a laptop. You will not always be somewhere where you can plug in your computer so battery life is important to consider. If you travel frequently or will not be able to plug in while using your computer look for a laptop with extended battery life.
6. Budget! Set a budget. You can purchase quality laptops fairly inexpensively these days. Decide how much you are willing to spend before starting your search so you do not overspend. For the typical computer user you can probably get a quality machine for around $600-800.
